Alaskan Getaway With GLBT Writer & Activist Causes Kathryn Townsend To Miss Deadline

kathryn townsend, karen brown, karen brown whats happening magazine, kathryn townsend seminole county, seminole county, kathryn townsend gop, seminole county post, seminole county news, news seminole county,

While off on an Alaskan cruise with Karen Brown, a well-known GLBT writer & activist - Townsend failed to file her campaign documents on time.....all while remaining active on Facebook spreading the news of her "getaway," via her cruise partner.

Over the past several weeks, we have written a great deal about the...."odd" campaign for State Representative being run by Kathryn Townsend - the Seminole GOP's State Committeewoman & newly minted primary opponent to incumbent State Representative Jason Brodeur.

Last we spoke of Ms. Townsend she was coming off an embarrassing straw-poll defeat and questions were still surrounding her late campaign report. Well, the questions about the latter have been answered - as Ms. Townsend has payed the late fee and updated her campaign filings. But, why did it take so long.......and why was she late in the first place?

Well, one has to look no further than her recent "progressive" Alaskan cruise that we teased last week. On July 13th, Ms. Townsend and one Karen Brown - who writes for What's Happening Magazine, embarked on a more than week long cruise together. What's Happening Magazine bills itself as "The premier magazine for the Gay, Lesbian, Bi-Sexual & Transgender (GLBT) community in Florida." according to Ms. Brown's linked in profile.

July cover of What's Happening Magazine, which features Ms. Brown as a writer.

Karen serves as their Director of Marketing and pens the "Straight Girl in a Gay World" column for the publication. According to local GLBT activists, she is involved in gay rights activism locally and in the markets the magazine serves - Georgia, Louisiana, and more.

So.....why does this matter you ask? Let me break it down for you and tell you why this spells even more trouble for the already beleaguered Townsend campaign.

1). No candidate should be going on a week long vacation with less than 90 days before election day. Any consultant, candidate, or volunteer worth their salt knows that 90 days out IS NOT the time to be trapsing across Sarah Palin's backyard - when you could be knocking doors, raising money......or......filing your campaign reports on time to say the very least. But the water must of been nice eh?

2). No candidate running in a GOP primary in what is a very conservative district (hello...it's Seminole County people) should be publicly sharing on social media their vacation with a GLBT activist & writer. Does this mean Kathryn Townsend supports gay marriage & gay adoptions? Does it mean Ms. Brown just has a friend supportive of these measures? Or is Ms. Townsend open to debate on these matters, and will her close friend Karen Brown have special access to lobby her on these issues if she were elected?

3). You can't go on a cruise that set sail 2 DAYS after a filing deadline with the Florida Division of Elections, and then be active on social media or public about the fact that you ARE ON VACATION! Who is going to trust you with important matters like voting on education funding or lower taxes if you can't even be bothered to take a moment from your ill-timed vacation to submit a simple campaign document that is required BY LAW.

*For the record, Ms. Townsend told us she takes full responsibility for her campaign treasurer missing the deadline. But when your campaign is built upon accountability & transparency - aren't you still accountable to make sure your team is following the law?

I could go on....but I think we all get the point. Kathryn Townsend and her advisers - Butch & Donna Bundy are running one of the most incompetent & tone def campaigns in the state of Florida. The cruise with the GLBT writer is less the main problem here but more of a symptom of the greater issue at hand - Kathryn Townsend WAS NOT & IS NOT ready for the big leagues.

Maybe she should stick to being a pain in everyone's ass as the Seminole GOP Committeewoman......or maybe she needs to go on another cruise.
