Seminole County Supervisor of Elections Michael Ertel confirms that Cortes' primary opponent Scott Sturgill has NOT qualified by petition.

Today, the Bob Cortes for State House Campaign announced that they have validated the necessary number of candidate petitions to qualify for the upcoming election in House District 30. District 30 contains parts of Seminole and Orange Counties and requires 1,006 petitions to qualify. Cortes collected over 900 petitions from Seminole County and over 200 in Orange County. The supervisors of elections in both counties have certified 1,025 of them.

“Any candidate can declare that they are going to qualify by petition, but it takes a comprehensive approach and a very dedicated ground team to accomplish the task," said candidate Bob Cortes. "This achievement shows that we have the support necessary to win and the determination to follow through on our commitment to our community.”

When reached by telephone, Seminole County Supervisor of Elections Michael Ertel said that the other Republican in the primary (Scott Sturgill) would not qualify by petition. Both are hoping to take on Democratic scion Karen Castor Dentel.

"Scott has not turned in any more petitions and the deadline for us to verify petitions has now passed. He will have until June 20th at 12PM to submit the $1,781.82 filing fee to get on the ballot," explained Ertel.

Cortes has the highest fundraising totals for the Republican primary and is the only Republican to have qualified by petition thus far. Yesterday, he announced his next fundraiser on May 27th at the Orlando-Sanford Airport. Sheriff Don Eslinger along with Bob Dallari, the Chairman of the Seminole County Board of Commissioners will be headlining the event.
