Election 2016: Our Endorsements For State House 28, 30

The Seminole County Post is proud to endorse the following candidates.

By Jacob Engels

For residents of Florida State House Districts 28 and 30, they have two different campaigns and candidates to pick from.

We sized up them up and share our final recommendations below.

State House, District 28 - Jason Brodeur

In District 28, Seminole Chamber of Commerce President Jason Brodeur seeks his final term in the Florida House.

Democrats failed to field a candidate, with Libertarian-turned-NPA candidate Steve Edmonds as Brodeur's only opposition.

Edmonds is a professor/activist who has focused on clean water, marijuana legalization, and attacking corruption in politics.

While we like Edmonds' dogged approach and energetic campaigning, many wish he would come home to the Republican Party after this cycle.

Challenging one of the most effective legislators comes with its downsides, as Brodeur has been able to spend nearly $200,000 to Edmonds $6,000.00.

Based on Brodeur's proven ability to pass legislation and drive the discussion in Tallahassee, we would like to see him finish out his time in the capitol.

The Seminole County Post enthusiastically endorses Jason Brodeur for his final term in the Florida House.

P.S. - GOP party leaders have expressed interest behind-closed-doors in supporting Edmonds for a County Commission bid, and we'd love to see his alternative perspective on the Board of County Commissioner.

State House, District 30 - Bob Cortes

Bob Cortes, a successful small business owner and Longwood's first Hispanic Mayor, is seeking his second term in the State House.

He is challenged by criminal defense attorney Ryan Yadav, who we have exposed for negative campaign tactics with strong racial undertones.

During his time in the state capitol, Cortes has passed several important pieces of legislation, actually outpacing most of his freshmen colleagues. He has taken his municipal mindset to Tallahassee, and streamlined our state government.

Challenger Ryan Yadav has offered little more than lofty platitudes and disgraceful personal attacks on his opponents profession and ethnicity.

Talk is cheap. Race-baiting is unforgivable.

With Cortes, District 30 residents get a dedicated public servant who possesses a robust work ethic. We are honored to endorse State Representative Bob Cortes for re-election.
