Election 2016: Seminole County Commission, District 1 & 5

Commissioners Dallari and Carey face low-budget Democratic opposition in their quest for another term on the Seminole County Commission.

By Jacob Engels

As part of our ongoing endorsements between now and election day, we have changed gears to the Seminole County Commission.

Both Bob Dallari and Brenda Carey are incumbents seeking another term on the commission, facing underfunded Democratic challengers in reliably red Seminole County.

Seminole County Commission District 1 - Bob Dallari

Walt Disney World rainmaker Bob Dallari has a long history of community service, starting with his time on the Oviedo City Council.

Joining the commission in 2004, Dallari immediately worked to protect Seminole County's water supply and limiting the growth of government.

Democratic opponent and retired university professor Walter Osbourne is a smart guy, but his motivations for challenging Dallari have remained unclear.

Bob Dallari has fought to get fiber optic cables for Seminole County schools, to expand public parks, and helped create over 3,000 jobs.

Like the District 5 race (Carey vs. Duncan) Dallari has out-raised his opponent by huge margins and is working voters through aggressive door-to-door campaigning.

The Seminole County Post endorses Bob Dallari for re-election in District 1.

Seminole County Commission District 5 - Brenda Carey

Veteran Seminole County Commissioner Brenda Carey has paved her own path through education, business, and public service.

When she has a goal, she does not stop until it is completed, which has made her a formidable and effective public servant.

Since being elected in 2004, Carey has done well serving Seminole County residents not only in her role as Commissioner, but also as our ambassador to over a dozen local boards and non-profits.

This election, Democrat H. Alexander Duncan has run a vigorous and quixotic campaign trying to snag the seat from Carey.

Mr. Duncan has got the bug, we just wish he had built up his political portfolio as a member of a local city council before competing in a countywide race.

Because of her ability to negotiate the best deal possible for Seminole County and NEVER voting to raise property taxes, the Seminole County Post endorses Brenda Carey for District 5.

On Monday we will share our endorsements for Winter Springs City Commission, Seat 5 and U.S. Congress, District 7.
