Save Orange County, a group fighting against a proposed development off Lake Pickett, are protesting tonight and later this week.

By Jacob Engels

Earlier this morning we received an email from Emily Bonilla, a spokesperson for the Save Orange County group that has spent the past year fighting against a new development in the area that could bring as many as 10,000 additional cars to nearby roadways. Below is a message from the group and more information on tonight's protest and future meetings.

Residents are gathering tonight, Wednesday, April 15 at 5pm to protest against re-zoning that will allow for a proposal of over 4,661 homesof which 700 may be apartments, and 237,000 square footage of commercial property in a rural area.

Location of protest: on the merge lane that is presently closed down as vehicles exit the 408 to E. Colonial, meeting on the side of the road, by the BP station, that leads to the Napleton Volkswagon dealership to petition along busy traffic.

The residents have started a Facebook page, a petition at Change.org just shy of 5000 signatures, however, new signatures are now directed to the website at http://SaveOrangeCounty.org.

The residents fight a new proposed text amendment to the Comprehensive Land Use Plan which will be an Urban Transition for the Rural Agricultural land between 50, 419, Tanner and McCulloch. If this goes through, this will be bigger than Avalon park and Waterford lakes.

Another Protest: Thursday, 4-16-15, from 7:30AM to approx. 9AM. With Friday, 4-17-15, 7:30 AM to approx. 9AM, as a backup if we get rained out Thursday.

TOWN HALL MEETING HOSTED BY SAVE ORANGE COUNTY INC. April 19th, 6pm, River Run Church, 141 River Run Point, Chuluota, FL 32766; Inviting all residents in area. Packed the sanctuary, last time. It was eventful! Will discuss details about the development.
