Say What? A Carjacking & Kidnapping in Winter Springs...

seminole county news, news seminole county, winter springs news, news winter springs, seminole county post,

Early Monday morning two teenagers robbed, kidnapped & carjacked a man outside a Winter Springs Walmart. This should be a lesson to people that crime can & will happen anywhere, even in a place like Winter Springs - that has long been ranked one of the safest cities in the state of Florida. A full report from WESH2 News can be found below.

Deputies: 2 men kidnapped man from Walmart parking lot in Seminole County

Two men are accused of carjacking, robbing and kidnapping a local man from a Seminole County Walmart. The victim told the Seminole County Sheriff's Office that he was taken at gunpoint from a Walmart grocery store on Red Bug Lake Road on Monday. Deputies arrested James Burgado and Jayland Harrison, both age 18 and from Winter Park. They allegedly pointed a gun at the victim around 12:30 a.m. Monday. They took the victim's wallet, forced him in the back of his Mercedes Benz, then forced him to withdraw money from a nearby bank, investigators said.

The pair allegedly duct-taped the victim's eyes and hands, placed him in the trunk and drove around for four hours, deputies said. It was around 4 a.m. when the two allegedly brought the victim back to the Winter Park transitional housing program, where they were living, deputies said. They allegedly locked the victim him in a bathroom and took off in his car. A spokeswoman for the program said they house men and women 18-23 who've aged out of the foster care program.

The spokeswoman could not say how long the two young men had been living there, but said, "We were shocked and saddened to hear about this serious but isolated incident. We are cooperating fully with local authorities at this time." Residents called 911 and the two were arrested shortly after, deputies said. "This is a really bizarre situation. That's a very safe area of the county," said Kim Cannaday, Sheriff's Office spokeswoman. "We don't normally see this type of activity, so it just goes to show you what these individuals were capable of doing." Burgado and Harrison were charged with kidnapping, armed robbery, carjacking and assault. They will go before a judge at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday. The victim was not injured.
