Michael Ertel, who serves as Seminole County's Supervisor of Elections, gathers Seminole County residents for packed event.

Voting, like most every other thing in Seminole County, is just better. Seminole County residents have elections chief Michael Ertel to thank for that. For years, Ertel's team has been widely lauded for their efforts to register voters and encourage participation on election day.

Following a Florida primary where neighboring Orange County had significant problems with the voting process, Seminole County emerged as one of the few areas in Florida that did not experience irregularities. Now, as election season begins to get closer for Seminole County candidates and others running for office in the region, Mr. Ertel hosted an immensely successful "candidate training."

David Leavitt, the former Chairman of the Libertarian Party of Seminole County and founder of the tech firm Refresh, said the event made him proud to live in Seminole County.

"There are many reasons to be proud to live in Seminole County.

One of them for me is knowing we have a Supervisor of Elections who is instrumental in ensuring municipal and county candidates obtain the knowledge they need to run clean and lawful campaigns.

Michael Ertel's candidate training this evening was not only educational, but in true Ertel fashion - it was often entertaining at the same time."

Ertel's wife Michelle, who is a respected governmental affairs consultant and news commentator for News 13, told the Seminole County Post that her husband worked hard to plan the event.

"There were many candidates there tonight and those who are thinking of becoming candidates. Michael has worked very hard for the past several days to make sure he had all the information laid out in an easy to understand format.

The room was packed — it seems like there is an awful lot of interest in politics this year — or else they showed up for my oatmeal butterscotch cookies."

With Florida sure to be in the spotlight again during this year's presidential elections, Seminole County Voters should rest assured with Mike Ertel.

"This is the only opportunity each cycle for candidates from all political affiliations to sit together and talk about the upcoming election. There's never any acrimony, and that's part of the reason I do this. Candidates get to meet their opponents in a friendly environment, away from the strife of a campaign."

Ertel continued by pointing to the fact that Seminole County has cleaner elections because of proper education at events like the candidate training event.

"We really just want our community more involved in the process."
